Dear Gossips,

I spent the last few days recovering from a scheduled procedure, staying off screens, and burning through several audiobooks – the first being Jenny Holiday’s Canadian Boyfriend. Sarah posted about this back in September and it’s been talked about all over the chats over on our Substack, The Squawk. Because the actor who voices Canadian Boyfriend is none other than Joshua Jackson alongside narrator Emily Ellet who plays the role of our romantic heroine, Aurora.

Canadian Boyfriend isn’t the horniest book I’ve ever read, or listened to, but there are definitely some horny parts, which means that, yes, if you’re wondering, Joshua Jackson says “clit”. Is it immature of me to be telling you this? Probably. But if that makes you more curious and encourages you to listen to it during the holiday break, well then no regrets. Also, if I ever interview him again, I am totally going to ask him about this.

Almost all the interviews Josh is doing these days are about Doctor Odyssey, most recently with Deadline just before the weekend. The show is currently on mid-season break and will return in March after ending on a cliffhanger that was preceded by an entanglement involving all three of its main characters. And while I’m not here to defend the overall quality of Doctor Odyssey, but it was fascinating to me that it went where all the fans were shipping it to go, ha, no pun intended. Remember this show airs on network television, the same network affiliated with Disney. And in season one actually gives us a MMF throuple love scene with the woman in control. Pacey Witter is out here reading horny books on audio and polyamory on your TV!

As much as I’d like to leave it at the climax though, unfortunately the linear ratings for Doctor Odyssey aren’t great, steadily dropping. So there’s no word on renewal yet. At the same time, linear ratings aren’t the only metric for success now. It has a few months to pick up some momentum on streaming but also, the online fanbase is pretty engaged. To them it’s not Doctor Odyssey but ODY3. I wonder how much of that the network is taking into account.

So it’ll be a quiet winter for Joshua while the show’s on hiatus but he’s doubling back in the spring, because it’s not only ODY3 returning but also he has a part in Karate Kid: Legends opening in May. Karate Kid, seriously? Yes, seriously. A May movie is pretty serious. And people take Cobra Kai very, very seriously.

Yours in gossip,

Lainey
