Keira Knightley became hugely famous in the 2000s—I don’t think I’ll ever forget 1) her first Oscar dress or 2) that tragically millennial outfit she wore to the Pirates of the Caribbean premiere:
Please can we stop bringing back Y2K fashion! It was so bad!
Anyway, Keira was at the premiere of her new spy series, Black Doves, in London last night, and she showed up in matronly Matrix cosplay. Her fashion has always been quirky, I either love or hate what she’s wearing, and this is, well, not a “love”.
But hey, Black Doves looks cool!
This trailer reminds me that there was a subplot cut out of one of the Bond movies of Ben Whishaw’s Q doing more in-the-field spy stuff, which always struck me as a sign that someone involved with Bond knew what a treasure they had with him—Craig’s Bond movies got Q involved beyond the lab. Black Doves is also reminding me that it’s been a minute since Keira Knightley has done some ass-kicking, she was always a highlight in the Pirates franchise, even as those movies got worse and worse.
A thread came up on the Squawk chat recently of favorite holiday movies, and while my family watches Christmas Vacation every year like we’re honoring some demented god, my mom and I also spend a day doing our baking and watching While You Were Sleeping and Keira’s Pride & Prejudice, which turns 20 years old next year, that cannot be right. Twenty years cannot have passed. It’s too many years.
