Jonathan Anderson presented his first Dior Cruise collection in LA yesterday – which makes sense because California and Hollywood’s golden age were the inspiration for so many of the pieces. Movie stars were strongly evoked during the show, in the clothes, in the model performances, there were more than a few hints of Audrey Hepburn, Elizabeth Taylor, Sofia Loren, Marilyn Monroe, and more. And the modern day iterations, those who are attempting to inherit the legacy of their predecessors, were represented the audience: Teyana Taylor, Anya Taylor-Joy, Miley Cyrus, Mikey Madison, Jisoo, and EJAE. Plus those who defy categorisation, who represent a new version of celebrity for the future. That would be Eileen Gu, not just an Olympian but also a model and student, some might call her a futurist.

Some of them are already Dior ambassadors, but a lot of them showed up in support of Jonathan Anderson, who has his own personal connection to Hollywood, given that he’s also a costume designer who’s worked on two Luca Guadagnino films. His schedule is much busier now that he’s taken over all lines at Dior but it probably wouldn’t surprise anyone in the industry if he somehow finds the time to do it again in a couple of years.

For now, the latest Dior…

I love the drop waist dresses with the rosettes around the hip, they’re so romantic and floofy; there’s a windswept and flowing energy that’s floating along that runway, even in the heavier pieces like the ornate, fully beaded gown and the coats.

Speaking of those drop waist dresses, the yellow is definitely one of the signature pieces.

It’s a flex for Sabrina Carpenter to be the first to wear it to the show while it was on the catwalk. Smart choice by the house to have her in the dress – Sabrina wears yellow often; on tour, off stage, it comes up a lot in her image catalogue. And now she can add to it.

That’s two for two in style wins for Sabrina. Her Met Gala look, also Dior by Jonathan Anderson, was one of the night’s best. And Jonathan custom made her Coachella looks too. It’s obvious she’s now a house favourite.
