The Met Gala is tonight and I am already in Met-Mode, because I am just assuming that any celebrity in New York at this point is going to the Met Gala. Like, Dua Lipa hosted SNL this weekend—it was a mediocre episode but Dua was game, and I especially like that she kept doing different yet equally ridiculous accents—so I just assume she's going (Dua is talking like she is).
But will Callun Turner join her? Callum was at a For Your Consideration event for Masters of the Air, held in LA over the weekend. Air travel is a thing, but ugh, the prospect of traveling as much as a celebrity exhausts me just to think about it. How are they not all permanently jetlagged?
Kaia Gerber is also in New York, but as with Dua and Callum, her boyfriend was in LA this weekend, too. Austin Butler joined Callum at the Masters of the Air event, along with their co-stars Nate Mann, Branden Cook, Josiah Cross, Raff Law—looking extremely like Jude—Anthony Boyle (sporting old-timey facial hair reminiscent of his character in Manhunt, John Wilkes Booth. Manhunt is a WAY better show than Air, and I love Boyle lowkey reminding people he’s the lead in another, better Apple TV+ series that is also Emmy-eligible). Director Dee Rees was also there.
Will these couples make it to the Met Gala? For Dua and Callum, it would be their first as a couple. For Austin and Kaia, their second. Their appearance at the 2022 event marked their red carpet debut, but they missed last year. Austin’s appearance there in 2022 was tied to Elvis promotion, he walked the carpet with Priscilla Presley and the rest of Team Elvis. Two years into his movie star era, Austin has been rather shy as a famous person. Yes, he turns up when doing press, but he keeps a relatively low profile in between obligations. Kaia has, so far, been happy to be lowkey with him. Will they make an exception for the Met Gala?
Back to Callum Turner, though. Lainey’s into this dude in a way I am not, but I did learn that he is Vanessa Kirby’s ex. Vanessa Kirby, Dua Lipa—these are women I find insanely hot and compelling. Which now has me wondering what Callum Turner has to pull women of this caliber.
