Dear Gossips,

As noted in What Else? earlier this week, there’s a lot going on in Vancouver lately. The Grey Cup just happened this past weekend; Taylor Swift will be there for three shows to close out The Eras Tour in early December. The city will host the Invictus Games in February and also the Juno Awards in March.

About Invictus, that’s why Prince Harry was at the Grey Cup on Sunday and he also visited with students at Seaforth Armoury on Monday where he played sitting volleyball with the kids, coloured with them, and sat in on a study session of the poem by William Ernest Henley, “Invictus”, which is where the Invictus Games gets its name.

To keep up the Invictus momentum, a video was released yesterday to announce one of the stars who will perform at the Games: Jelly Roll!

This is a great choice, Jelly Roll is wonderful, a great fit for the event. And he’s just so cute, they’re cute together. Harry is actually quite convincing here, even though the tattoo isn’t real – obviously Jelly Roll would never ink his own name on Harry’s neck but also there’s no evidence of it anymore on Harry and this happened in New York in September. Still, it’s an effective bit to generate awareness about Invictus, which is the point.

There is less awareness, however, about the docuseries he and Meghan Markle have produced. What’s On Netflix reported last week that Polo will premiere on December 10 which is less than two weeks away. A trailer for the show has yet to be released, which isn’t super unusual for Netflix, they don’t always build long lead times for their series, especially since there’s so much going on in their catalogue. Since we’re this close, though, a trailer should be coming soon…maybe in time for American Thanksgiving? I’m also curious about whether or not they’ll put any resources into a proper premiere, like a red carpet. But I’m even more curious about what this show will be. Miloš Balać is the showrunner, and he did a good job with Welcome to Wrexham. But he was working with two established talents, Rob McElhenny and Ryan Reynolds who are both professional entertainers.

Do the horse people know how to give good TV? The potential is there since I know, in real life, there’s enough drama in the community for it to deliver compelling storylines, it’s a matter of whether or not they’ll allow themselves to go full docu-reality to make it worth watching.

Yours in gossip,

Lainey
