Please note, we are are dark on Monday for the Victoria Day long weekend. We'll return to regular posting on Tuesday. Have a great weekend!

Cannes never lets up once it gets going, so here are a few more beautiful women in beautiful dresses…and John Travolta. Let’s start with Marion Cotillard, who stars in Karma, which is directed by her partner, Guillame Canet, and premiered today on the Croisette. She wore a dress that looks like Courtney Love would have worn it in the 2000s (compliment).

And then there is Simone Ashley, radiant in red, riding high on The Devil Wears Prada 2. This is vintage Alexander McQueen, styled beautifully. She’s such a beautiful woman, it’s almost impossible to make her look bad (though the makeup department on Bridgerton season four certainly tried), when she wears something she clearly feels confident in, the result is pretty amazing.

For some reason John Travolta was also at the Karma premiere. He received an honorary Palme d’Or before the premiere of his directorial debut, Propeller One-Way Night Coach.

But also at Cannes, at the premiere of All of a Sudden, is Riley Keough. It came up at the end of 2025 that Keough allegedly donated eggs to Travolta and his wife, Kelly Preston, to help conceive their son, Jett (Kelly and Jett are now both deceased). I don’t bring this up to be salacious, but because in the reporting of this—much of it breathless and, yes, salacious—I didn’t see anyone mentioning Xenu. IF, and that is a big IF, this is true, it would have been during a time when Riley, by way of her mother, Lisa Marie Presley, was affiliated with Scientology. And that makes me think that IF this happened, Riley might not have had a lot of choice about it.

Even today, with as much power as Xenu has lost over the last twenty years, people still don’t want to look head on at what happens within that organization, at the abuses of power and, frankly, just abuses, period. The story about Keough and the Travoltas came out through a lawsuit, and frankly, beyond creating safe and ethical boundaries for everyone involved, how people are getting pregnant is nobody’s business, but in this case, I feel like everyone could have been a little more “yeah but did she have a choice” about it. Because with Xenu, she, or anyone put in that situation, probably didn’t. And that should be a much bigger part of the story.

Anyway, I’m team “let the mean teens storm Scientology centers for fun and profit”.

What else happened today…

Meet the stars of Off Campus, the latest hot hockey show (Lainey wrote about it earlier this week here). Okay but like WHY is HOCKEY such a popular subgenre of romance? The NHL is losing audiences faster than any other major North American league, yet I’m to believe everyone secretly loves hockey? I 100% understand the appeal of queer male romance to straight women (it’s the same reason Pride and Prejudice is Jane Austen’s most popular novel, in both instances, women are not doing emotional labor for men), but someone is going to have to explain to me why all the romance shows are about hockey now. (Popsguar)

There was a “Women in Cinema” gala at Cannes and many choices were made. Not all of them good. (Go Fug Yourself)

Widow’s Bay is f-cking fantastic, and at this point, I guess I’m waiting for the finale to review because every time I go into my review, I keep spoiling sh-t, but the whole show hinges on a critical tonal balance that is hard to talk about without getting into how everyone makes that balance work. Anyway, Widow’s Bay is good and everyone should be watching it (Apple TV+).

It’s also giving us Matthew Rhys going about, talking in public with his cute Welsh accent. His pet peeve is people listening to loud stuff on their phones without headphones (stars, they’re just like us), and he loves horses. He has talked in the past about his love of horses, Matthew Rhys is an unapologetic horse boy. Keri Russell is truly living the dream with that one. (Celebitchy)

Hip restaurants are using the same shade of bright blue in their design. I had an amazing brunch over the summer at a place with this color of blue paint in the décor. I did clock it at the time, I liked how bright and happy it was compared the rest of the neutral décor. Maybe part of the reason I enjoyed that brunch so much is because the paint job put me in a good mood. Food is truly an all-senses experience. (Eater)
