CEO JLo’s Office Romance
The celebrities we most associate with love? At the top or near the top of the list has to be Jennifer Lopez, personally and professionally. Personally we all know the motto: JLo loves love. JLo has been in and out of love since the moment she became famous, about 30 years ago. She’s been married four times, she’s been engaged even more times, she has dated working class, middle class, high class, athletes, actors, dancers, waiters, and musicians. But she has been single now for just over two years… and counting. Which I think might be verging on the longest stretch in three decades?!
That’s JLo in real life. JLo in work life is also linked to love. Because she will never turn her back on the rom-com so if there are people who call her the “Queen of Rom-coms”, they’re not wrong. JLo has been making rom-coms for a quarter of a century now (The Wedding Planner came out 25 years ago) and her latest rom-com is just about a month away. Office Romance, co-starring Brett Goldstein, is coming to Netflix on June 5.
Yesterday Netflix posted a trailer for the first trailer featuring JLo creating a LinkedIn account for herself as the “Queen of Rom-coms” to promote the latest rom-com character she’ll be playing, Jackie Cruz, CEO of Air Cruz. This is cute, and they smartly lean into the nostalgia from the previous rom-coms that we know so well. She’s adorable here, and they f-cking lit the sh-t out of her, if we could all be blessed with this soft lighting!
Like I said, it was the trailer for the trailer, which just dropped. And what we’re getting here is the boss and staff member trope, with a slight twist. Up until recently, this particular straight romance trope featured a male executive. There are hundreds of Chinese and Korean dramas with this kind of setup. More and more, though, romance authors are flipping the script, where the executive is a woman and this is where we find JLo, in her Miranda Priestley era, falling in love with Brett Goldstein who, by the way, co-wrote the script and is a producer on the project. Which adds another layer of expectation here because he’s a strong writer, and it’ll be so interesting to see what he does with this formula. From the preview, I’m already into their chemistry.
