TS is for Taylor and Toy Story
It’s been months and speculation and finally now confirmation. Frankly I’m more into this, right now at least, than all the wedding rumours – the Taylor Swift/Toy Story crossover is official. In addition to all the billboards and posters that have been popping up that made her involvement pretty obvious (the initials and the 13 clouds), a countdown has appeared on her website with some kind of reveal happening today at 2pm ET. Perhaps by the time you read this you’ll already know…
Will she be voicing a role in Toy Story 5? Did she write the theme song? Is Taylor Swift headed to the Oscars? This, after all, is an award that has eluded her so far but most people think it’s inevitable – that one day Taylor will win the Oscar for Best Original Song, just like Adele and Lady Gaga and Billie Eilish before her. And Barbra Streisand, Prince, Elton John, Eminem and other popstars before them.
Taylor + Toy Story adds even more anticipation to a movie that was already expected to be a mega blockbuster this summer. Interestingly, in the three decades since the first Toy Story opened, there is one song most closely associated with the franchise: Randy Newman’s “You’ve Got a Friend in Me”. It’s the theme song, probably the best known theme song for Toy Story up to this point. But it did NOT win the Oscar for Best Original Song back in 1995/1996. That year it was “Colors of the Wind” from Pocahontas. “We Belong Together”, by Randy Newman, from Toy Story 3, did win Best Original Song in 2011. And there has been an Oscar nominee in the Best Original Song category for each of the preceding Toy Story movies so if Taylor does write and perform for the soundtrack, there is strong precedent for her to be nominated.
As for the movie itself…
I’m already afraid of it, like I’ve been afraid of all Toy Story movies since Toy Story 3 because that was the hardest I’ve ever cried on a plane. And now we’re dealing with another existential crisis with children in a digital reality. Because Bonnie is growing up in a world where kids don’t want old school toys, they want devices. And this device, Lilypad, is voiced by Greta Lee.
All this Taylor Swift business is overshadowing the fact that THE GRETA LEE is in Toy Story 5! Sarah mentioned this a few days ago I’m here to amplify – GRETA LEE IS IN TOY STORY 5!
@fandango Greta Lee breaks down how her character Lilypad views the toys in ToyStory5. Catch the full conversation at the link in our bio, and reserve your seats on Fandango! #movietok #filmtok #pixar #toystory

And, in some form, so is Taylor Swift.
