Taylor’s “Love Story” for Travis
As expected, which was noted in my post about it yesterday, Taylor Swift, the First Lady of Tight Ends, performed at the Tight Ends & Friends Concert last night.
She was joined by Lainey Wilson on “Love Story”, one of her signature tracks and obviously fitting because as Juliet she was wearing the ring given to her by her Romeo after she said yes.
This is not the first Tight End University performance by Taylor Swift in honour of Travis Kelce. Which should tell you something about how Taylor feels about Travis. Because if there’s anything we know for sure about Taylor it’s that she is all about her business – the business of her songs, her most precious assets; and also the business of where she shares her songs, and when the sharing of those songs happens.
She is one of the most valuable artists on the planet, with one of the most valuable catalogues. Very few events get the privilege of having her on their stages because she is fiercely proprietary about her work and talent, as she should be. The fact that she’s basically making it a tradition to perform, essentially for free, at such a small scale occasion in comparison to where you typically see her is an indication of her commitment to this man and his projects. She has literally nothing to gain from doing this…except for his happiness and gratitude. And that too says a lot about what is important to her and what she attaches value to.
Like, she wearing a custom Monse dress… where it’s not a live broadcast. I mean, sure, people are holding up their phones and filming and we’re seeing it all over TikTok but it’s not exactly the most high quality filming that matches up to the quality of a dress that was made specifically for her. She could have bought something at Reformation and called it a day. But she pulled out an exclusive piece of clothing that looks like it could have made the cut on her wedding weekend, the third dress at the reception, for what was at most a ten-minute performance? That’s a lot of respect for her man.
Speaking of the wedding reception…
Now even the New York Times is in on the wedding rumours at Madison Square Garden. Permits have apparently been secured from July 2-4 around MSG. And a tent. Something is going down…
But they too are hedging for an elaborate fakeout. Per the NYT article:
“Of course Ms. Swift could be undertaking an intricate ruse. But New York City agencies are proceeding with the expectation that a major Swift event will happen on July 3, said the people who have knowledge of the plans.”
And further down:
“But Ms. Swift is known for subterfuge, and it is possible she applied for permits at multiple locations or could change her mind about the venue.”
In other words, everyone wants to believe what they’re hearing but they don’t know if they should trust what they’re hearing. So what does anyone truly know?
