The Met Gala was last night, and the vibes were kinda weird which might have been the Bezos of it all, OR all that wine I drank. I have been living through a torment nexus calendar catastrophe, a convergence of Too Many Responsibilities, but last night I got to sit on my sofa, drink wine, and watch my shows! My “shows” being “Hudson and Connor Go Outside”. I love it when HudCon* goes outside. It’s so fun.

*I did refer to them as “Hufcob” in the group chat with Duana and Lainey, which is my own personal Grink.

As expected, Hudson Williams and Connor Storrie attended their first Met Gala—they grow up so fast—repping their new fashion ambassadorships, Balenciaga for Hudson, and YSL for Connor. I hate to say it but…neither look was very good. And forget the theme, we’re not grading on that curve this year, the theme was so broad (“costume art”) as to be useless. Very uninspiring stuff, almost like Anna Wintour is sabotaging Chloe Malle’s first Met Gala as Vogue editor with a truly uninspired gala (never mind the Bezos of it all).

Let’s start with Connor, whom I saw first. Upon seeing him leave his hotel, I was uninspired. I was désolée, because I knew I was not going to like his fit. I knew I could not fake enthusiasm. I was Shane Hollander trapped in a hotel room with a woman, I just wanted to die and melt through the floor from my sheer unenthusiasm for the moment.

It’s not BAD, Connor Storrie is too beautiful to look BAD, but it is entirely too much like Hudson’s look from the Vanity Fair Oscar party. Remember:

Same colorway, same silhouette. Admittedly, Connor’s look improved when he removed his jacket, and not just because of his big, beautiful biceps. It’s just that bare skin gives the look some contrast and becomes more eye-catching. I truly believe he could have pencil arms, and this would still be the better version of the look. That said, his big, beautiful biceps definitely don’t hurt.

Overall, not bad, but not inspiring, and frankly, given the high bar Connor has set for himself on the fashion front, a bit of a letdown for his first Met Gala. This is just playing it so safe, and in the short time I have been watching the “Hudson and Connor Go Outside Show”, “safe” is not a word I associate with Connor Storrie’s fashion choices. Please do not let YSL become the equivalent of Margot Robbie’s Chanel contract for Connor.

Over on the Hudson front, things weren’t much better. I will give Hudson this credit—he went big. He definitely did not play it safe. He did a two-tone eye makeup look inspired by Black Swan and wore a custom Balenciaga suit inspired by a bolero jacket designed by Cristobal Balenciaga in the 1940s. This is the kind of history and referencing I like to see at the Met Gala, but the execution here is lackluster. My lusters are lacked.

The head styling on its own is good, that is a cool punk look Hudson is really working, and I would love to someday see the outfit that goes with it, because “pastel matador diva” is NOT the look that goes with “80s party punk” makeup. These are two entirely different style ideas, and they don’t even clash in an interesting way. Nothing about the makeup enhances or challenges the matador look, and vice versa. They’re just two separate ideas, that should have remained separate.

Also, the pants. They need to be tight. Like TIGHT-tight. If we’re referencing matadors, the pants should be painted on. It would also work better with the volume of the train if the pants were fitted. The relaxed pants and train together just look sloppy and unfinished. There are several interesting ideas here but none of them come together and not even Hudson Williams with that FACE can make it all work. Though I do love his commitment to a bare chest. Live your freest life, you himbo delight.

In all, a bit of a disappointing episode of the “Hudson and Connor Go Outside Show”, but these two will have more Met Galas in their futures. There will come a day when they hit the stairs, and we all gasp in the good way.
